           Content description of the BROWSE Subdirectory


The 'browse' directory contains reduced JPEG images for the M-visible and
M-IR data files. These images provide the calibrated intensity at several
wavelengths, outlining various information for quick look and data selection.
Browse images are automatically processed with histogram equalization and
Roberts filtering (2-pixel scale gradient), then reduced to ~half image size.

Browse image names have the format *_x.JPG, where * is the data file name
root (e.g. VI0324_00), and x is a letter ranging from A to I identifying the
wavelength or spectral range in use.

In addition, the label of the original raw data file is made available as a
separate text file, with name *_LABEL.TXT. These text files cannot be
used as detached labels to access the raw data files (data pointers would be
wrong).

A common detached label is provided for all browse images and for the label
text corresponding to the same cube, with name *_LBL.

All these files are grouped by orbits in directories *_BROWSE.
