SPEDE raw data (level 1b) is to be used only by Finnish Meteorological
Institute for producing calibrated data (level 2). Other users should
use Level 2 (REFDR) data.

Introduction
____________

This PDS data archive contains raw data measured by SPEDE (Spacecraft 
Potential, Electron and Dust Experiment) instrument onboard SMART-1
spacecraft during spacecraft orbits 206-228. The main task during these
orbits was characterizing instrument and probe performance in natural
plasma environment with EP off.

NOTE! You need also product S1_EP_THRUST_LOG.TAB from the dataset
S1-L-ESOC-6-AUXILIARY-DATA-V1.0 to correctly interpret SPEDE data.

In addition to science data, this archive contains instrument configuration
data, and documentation describing the instrument and the data products.

SPEDE data in this archive has been provided by Finnish Meteorological
Institute, P.O.Box 503, 00101 Helsinki, Finland. The instrument's PI is Anssi
Malkki (Anssi.Malkki@fmi.fi).

Data product files in this data archive are of ASCII format. Data products are
TABLEs. 
Documentation files are either ASCII of PDF files.

SPEDE data products use attached labels. The labels point to external format
containers (*.FMT files), saved in LABEL subdirectory of this archive.

Data structure is described in SPEDE SIS document, SPEDESIS.ASC, that can be
found in DOCUMENT subdirectory.
