INTRODUCTION
======================================================================

  This archive contains the science data acquired by the VMC camera
  onboard the Mars Express mission during mission phase EXTENSION 7.
  The VMC camera was originally intended as an engineering camera to
  monitor the release of the Beagle-2 lander, but has subsequently
  been used for outreach and scientific purposes. In 2016 it was
  designated a science instrument.

  VMC takes images in a stream of 8 bits. For more information on the
  VMC, please refer to the catalog INSTRUMENT.CAT.

FILE FORMATS
======================================================================
VMC Level 2 raw DATA products are stored in RAW files, formatted as
unsigned 8 bit integers, plus an associated label file for each
product.

The VMC Level 2 BROWSE products are PNG files which are a direct
conversion of the raw product into an image with the Bayer pattern
solved.  Thus they contain 3 colour channels of 8 bits each. These
products also each have an associated label file.
