Introduction =============== This dataset contains Science and calibration images acquired by the OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera on the Rosetta mission. The images were acquired during the COMET ESCORT 4 mission phase covering the period from 2015-10-20T23:25:00.000 to 2015-11-17T23:24:59.000. Note that the data part of the FITs files in the /DATA/FIT directory is identical to the data part of the PDS files in the /DATA/IMG directory. FITs files are delivered only for CODMAC levels 2,3, and 4 datasets. No FITs files are delivered for CODMAC level 5 datasets. For details please see: CATALOG/MISSION.CAT for a description of the Rosetta mission CATALOG/INSTHOST.CAT for a description of the Rosetta spacecraft CATALOG/OSINAC_INST.CAT for a description of the OSIRIS instrument CATALOG/DATASET.CAT for a detailed description of the dataset CATALOG/TARGETS.CAT for a description of the observed targets As an entry point into the documentation, it is recommended to read the OSIRIS Science User Guide: DOCUMENT/SCIENCE_USER_GUIDE/SCIENCE_USER_GUIDE_V07.PDF A detailed description of the instrument can be found in: DOCUMENT/OSIRIS_SSR/KELLER_ET_AL_2007_V01.PDF An overview description of the calibration can be found in: DOCUMENT/CALIB/OSIRIS_CAL_PIPELINE_V10.PDF A database of calibration parameters used for image calibration can be found in: CALIB/* (See CALINFO.TXT) 2. File Formats =============== The OSIRIS PDS images are stored as data files with embedded label. In addition, a detached label is provided for FITs and JPEG. The data (PDS and FITs) are stored as: a. two dimensional 16 bit integer arrays for CODMAC level 2 data b. two dimensional 32 bit float arrays for CODMAC level 3 and higher data The data are referenced using a PDS IMAGE object. The detailed description of the data file formats can be found in: DOCUMENT/SIS/OSIRIS_SIS_V08.PDF 2.1 Sofware For Reading PDS Images ================================== FWPDS is a library for accessing (and manipulating) PDS data, and is provided in this volume (see below). But it requires IDL 6.1 (or later), and is no longer officially supported. The PDS images contained in this volume can be read by any PDS-compliant software, for example, NASAView: https://pds.nasa.gov/tools/nasa-view.shtml 3. Volume Contents ================== Files on this volume are organized into a set of subdirectories below the top-level directory. The following table shows the structure and content of these directories. In the table, directory names are enclosed in square brackets ([]).
