Readme file for UPDP products pacs-uranus-moons Summary ------- This set comprises the processing of 20 Uranus mini-maps at 5 epochs (1 scan and 1 cross-scan map with 70+160um filter combination and 1 scan and 1 cross-scan map with 100+160um filter combination at each epoch), which were originally designed to obtain Uranus fluxes for PACS photometric calibration. The goal of the UPDP processing was 1) to establish a Uranus Point Spread Function (PSF) from all individual maps 2) to uncover the images of the five major Uranian moons Titania, Oberon, Umbriel, Ariel, and Miranda by subtracting the Uranus PSF 3) to obtain the fluxes of the moons by PSF photometry Reference --------- The reference for description of the method and presentation of the results as well as modelling of the moon SEDs is given in: Detre, Ö; Müller, T.G.; Klaas, U.; Marton, G.; Linz H.; Balog, Z. In order to determine any dependence of the PSF photometry on the data reduction, the maps were processed with a variety of map parameter combinations, as listed in Table 1. Only the selected output pixel size was kept constant, which meant a sampling of the PSF FWHM by 5 pixels in each filter. The variation of the results among the different created maps of the same observation identifier (OBSID) is one component in the photometric uncertainty assessment. Table 1: Used scan map parameters for the input maps of the PSF fitting step. FWHM_PSF is the average full width-half maximum of the point spread function for a point-like source in the corresponding filter. "outpix" is the output pixel size in the final map. "HPF" is the abbreviation for high pass filter, "pixfrac" is the ratio of drop size to input pixel size used for the drizzling algorithm within the photProject() mapper. Filter FWHM_PSF outpix HPF radius pixfrac (µm) (") (") ------------------------------------------------------------- 70 (blue) 5.6 1.1 15, 20, 35 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 100 (green) 6.8 1.4 15, 20, 35 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 160 (red) 10.7 2.1 30, 40, 70 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 ------------------------------------------------------------- The Level 2 data products are stored separately in zip files for each epoch (same OD) and color. The data files in the individual zip files are labelled according to the applied pixfrac and HPF radius combination. In each zip file there are three different level of files: 1) Standard Product High Pass Filter (HPF) Level 2 map. The five extensions "image", "coverage", "stDev", "HPFmask", and "error" are according to the description in the document PACS Products Explained (HERSCHEL-HSC-DOC-2191). 2) The standard High Pass Filter (HPF) map product, corrected (*_corr.fits): - in astrometry - wrt. the flux variation of Uranus and its moons with distance from Herschel - for dependence of detector responsivity with telescope background - and adding a proper background offset to comply with the Encircled Energy Fraction of the flux per aperture called "OBSID_filter_corr.fits" Extensions are like in the previous map product. 3) The Uranus PSF subtracted map product including the subtracted Uranus PSF image and the PSF fitted moon images (*_corr_psfdub.fits) - The PSF subtracted map with the moon images is contained in the 1st extension of the FITS file. - The subtracted Uranus PSF is contained in the 11th extension of the FITS file. - The image of fitted moon PSFs for PSF photometry is contained in the 12th extension of the FITS file. - Subtracting the fitted moon PSF map (FITS extension 12) from the moon image map (FITS extension 1) gives a map of the residuals providing a judgement of the quality of the fit. - Addition of the Uranus PSF map (FITS extension 11) and the moon image map (FITS extension 1) gives back the original map. - The moon image FITS header contains also photometric results for Uranus and the Uranian moons. Level 3 products ---------------- They are the co-addition of all scan and cross scan maps of one of the five epochs and of all nine map parameter combinations, i.e. 18 Level 2 products (combination of two OBSIDs) for 70 and 100µm maps and 36 Level 2 products (combination of four OBSIDs) for 160µm maps. The filenames are: detre_uranusmoons_PACS_b_OBSID1_ID2_average_corr_psfsubt.fits for 70µm maps, detre_uranusmoons_PACS_g_OBSID1_ID2_average_corr_psfsubt.fits for 100µm maps and detre_uranusmoons_PACS_r_OBSID1_ID2_ID3_ID4_average_corr_psfsubt.fits for 160µm maps. Where the OBSID1 is the starting full OBSID number, while IDx are the last 2 digits of the following OBSIDs of the same epoch. - The PSF subtracted map with the moon images is contained in the 1st extension of the FITS file. - The subtracted Uranus PSF is contained in the 2nd extension of the FITS file. - The image of fitted moon PSFs for PSF photometry is contained in the 3rd extension of the FITS file. Subtracting the fitted moon PSF map (FITS extension 3) from the moon image map (FITS extension 1) gives a map of the residuals providing a judgement of the quality of the fit. Addition of the Uranus PSF map (FITS extension 2) and the moon image map (FITS extension 1) gives back the original map. These images are used for production of the related postcard (.jpg).
