Description G21.5-0.9 is a supernova remnants with bright pulsar wind nebulae
powered by a young, active pulsar, and for which IR observations
provide evidence of the interaction between the pulsar wind nebulae
and the inner ejecta of the remnants. Combined with known properties
of the central pulsar, and broadband images and the spectral energy
distribution, information derived from spectroscopy of the interaction
regions can place strong constraints on the evolution of this systems
and on its progenitor star. Here we propose Herschel spectral mapping
studies of G21.5-0.9 in order to obtain velocity and composition
measurements of the inner ejecta in order to investigate the
progenitor properties and the dynamical evolution of the system.

Version SPG v14.2.2
Mission Description Herschel was launched on 14 May 2009! It is the fourth 'cornerstone' mission in the ESA science programme. With a 3.5 m Cassegrain telescope it is the largest space telescope ever launched. It is performing photometry and spectroscopy in approximately the 55-671 µm range, bridging the gap between earlier infrared space missions and groundbased facilities.
