The XR and SR noise diodes may have been turned on accidentally at the beginning of the pre-cal, and there is clipping of the XR carrier during the BCAL period; but there are work-arounds to recover these calibrations, and there should be no serious effect on the science value of the surface observations. The specular point passed just west of Gale crater about 40 minutes into the observation. Gale is the target of the MSL mission.
