Does having the downlinks off or over- >laying the slew with an occultation impact the 2nd mini-cal? The DSN Keyword Files for several recent BSRs have shown a station reconfiguration (usually fixing of the subreflector) followed by an occultation after LOS. I have been ignoring these since there is presumably no downlink signal. In addition, there is no uplink; so the occultation would not meet the MaRS requirements that occultation data be collected two-way. I have assumed that the 'occultation' lines in the DKF are some artifact of the DKF generation process and do not represent real occultation data collection activities. If that is not the case, we need some clarification (and more evidence that there will be spacecraft signals to capture). I have discussed several of these experiments with Hannes. The spacecraft HGA is nearly at Earth-point at 06:44 (LOS). In this case, we have run the BSR almost to the occultation; but it is still a BSR activity. We can conduct MINICAL #2 without needing the spacecraft signal; we lose the second spacecraft amplitude and frequency calibration (BCAL #2), but that is not important -- especially if BCAL #1 was conducted correctly. The DKF includes a command for fixing the sub-reflector at 06:28:59; we don't want that for BSR, but its importance is low if there's no simple way to override the instruction. Otherwise, we should carry this out as BSR only (and we may get a one-way occultation free if the spacecraft transmits long enough). A complex-wide failure of the LAN (Local Area Network) at Canberra (DR# C107373) resulted in the station being inaccessible until ap- proximately 06:00 UTC. Due to this problem only steps 1-5 and 14, 16, and 19 of the Pre-Cal procedure were performed. And the first Mini-Cal was skipped. Echoes were seen and recorded from 06:08 to 06:44 -- i.e., about the last 40% of the scheduled BSR experiment. There was also some uncertainty regarding the configuration of the X-band LCP and RCP equipment (their ADC amplitudes were nearly the same until Step #2 of the post experiment Mini-Cal. Still, strong X-band echoes were seen during the available time. - Gene & Danny --=====================_1980844671==_ Content-Type: application/octet-stream; name="MEX_BSR_20100507_D43.xls"; x-mac-type="584C5334"; x-mac-creator="5843454C" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="MEX_BSR_20100507_D43.xls" 0M8R4KGxGuEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPgADAP7/CQAGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACAAAAAQAAAAAAAAAA EAAAMAAAAAEAAAD+////AAAAAAAAAAAyAAAA//////////////////////////////////////// ...
