Introduction This volume contains all (low resolution) spectra of Comet 46P/Wirtanen that were used to perform the analysis published in Schulz et al. (1998) in wavelength- and flux-calibrated form. The whole two-dimensional frames are archived, although, neither does the comet cover the complete spatial range nor are the spectra usefull beyond 7500 Angstrom, due to heavy fringing in that red part of the CCD. The data are in FITS format and are grouped in directories according to their time of observation. The filenames further reflect their observation time, where the first two characters are the day (corresponding to the month in the directory name), followed by the UniversalTime (i.e.: DDutHHMM.fit) of the start of the exposure. The data acquired in July, September, October and December 1996 were obtained with the EFOSC2 instrument attached to the ESO/MPG 2.2m Telescope, whereas those of November 1996 were taken with the EFOSC instrument at the ESO 3.6m Telescope. The fluxes are in units of 10**-19 erg/(sqcm*s*Angstrom) and in dispersion direction the units are Angstrom. In spatial direction the units are left unchanged i.e. they represent CCD pixels. The nominal pixel scale for the EFOSC2/2.2m combination is 0.262 arcseconds whereas the EFOSC/3.6m has 0.61 arcseconds per CCD pixel. For the EFOSC2 spectra either grism #1 or #3 were used with a slit width of 2". The EFOSC data were obtained through the grism B150 and a 2" slit. 2. File formats Each label file was created with the fits2pds (f2p) tool provided by the PDS Small Bodies Node. The name convention used is: ESO_C_EF2_C_YYYYMMDDTHHSS.LBL , where YYYYMMDD is the year (in year-month-day_of_year format), and HHSS is the time of capture. These label files point to the corresponding FITS files. 3. Volume contents The files on this volume are organized in one top-level directory with several subdirectories. The following table shows the structure and content of these directories. Int he table, directory names are enclosed in square brackets ([]), upper-case letters indicate an actual directory or file name, and lower-case letters indicate the general form of a set of directory or file names.
