PURPOSE: Conduct MEX supports to exercise spacecraft and station configurations for activities such as; Bistatic Radar measurements, occultations, gravity wave experiments and Solar Conjunction in preparation for actual Radio Science observations. 2. OBJECTIVE: a. Demonstrate that the DSN can support the various configurations requiired for successful Bistatic Radar mearsurement activities. b. Exercise spacecraft configuration to be used for planned radio science experiments. 3. SUPPORT DOCUMENTATION a. NOP 871-049-041 b. This briefing message c. DSN Key Word File d. Project Sequence of Events 4. SUPPORT REQUIREMENTS: a. The Radio Science Systems Group will remotely control the Radio Science Receiver(RSR)for all scheduled supports. b. X-Band and S-Band uplink ranging will be performed as well as S-and X-Band Down Link Ranging. c. For Bistatic radar measurents, 70-Meter antenna support is required. d. Four closed-loop receivers are required for DSS-43 supports. e. Four Open-loop receivers are required for DSS-43 suppots. f. For X-Band, the fixed channel LNAs are configured LCP/RCP at all times. g. The HEMT in MOD-III will be configured for low noise. h. The cone TWM will be configured for the diplex path. i. Record Monitor Data. j. X-Band will be prime for all supports, with the exception of DOY 192, S-Band will be prime at DSS-24. k. Enable prime data stream to line as indicated above in item j. l. Nominal predictions for X/X, S/S X/S X/X are to be generated. m. The MSE/NOPE will be on duty in the ROSA for these activities. n. The spacecraft will be transmitting XRCP and SRCP o. Receiver configuration: XRCP/XLCP/SRCP/SLCP for both Closed and Open-Loop. RADIOMETRIC Table-1. Precal: 1) Antenna at zenith 2) Verify RSR recording .(Remotely controlled by RSR Team) 3) Antenna on Cold sky (2 Min) 4) Antenna/UWV cold sky and 12K Noise Diode ( 2 Min ). 5) Antenna/UWV Ambient Load (2Min). 6) Antenna/UWV Ambient Load and 12K Noise Diode (2Min). 7) Perform Y-Factor measurements for all four channels (XRCP/XLCP/SRCP/SLCP) Experiment: The NMC Link controller will need to manually Switch on the 12K Noise Diode for 1-2 minutes every hour. For example, on the hour turn on the 12K Noise Diode on X-RCP, X-LCP, S-RCP, and S-LCP. Then at 2 minutes after the hour turn each of them off. This allows us to capture the calibration in the regular data stream (at a slight reduction in SNR over those 2 minutes). Post Cal: 1) Antenna at zenith 2) Antenna on Cold sky (2 Min) 3) Antenna/UWV cold sky and 12K Noise Diode ( 2 Min ). 4) Antenna/UWV Ambient Load (2Min). 5) Antenna/UWV Ambient Load and 12K Noise Diode (2Min). 6) Perform y-Factor measurements for all four channels (XRCP/XLCP/SRCP/SLCP) 7) RSR recording stopped by RSR Team . Note: 1) Record of Ambient Load Temp Date . 2) Record of 12K Noise Diode on / off times. 3) Record of Ambient Load switching times . GCF a. Voice: DSS / JPL / ROSA MOPS/AMMOS b. Data: DSS / JPL /AMMOS/ESA NOCT N/A 5. DELIVERABLES: a. The Radio Science Systems Group will is required to record data at the RSR beginning at precalibration through the end of post calibrations activities. b. Following the S-Band Uplink support on DOY 192, the X-Band exciter table will be delivered to DSS-24 for the support on DOY 195. 6. MISCELLANEOUS: For these activities, predicts are required as depicted in table-2. (Spacecraft/Receiver Configuration) 7. SEQUENCE OF EVENTS: During the supports on DOY 187 and 191, the station is requested to turn the noise diodes on and off at the following times: ON OFF 1710 1715 1805 1810 1900 1905 <> 8.
