They are available from livelink under the directory: Mars Express \ Science Operations \ mission_analysis (http://www.rssd.esa.int/llink/livelink?func=ll&objid=2810161) The cases 2,4 and 5 are described in the technical note from FD (MEX-ESC-TN-5520.pdf) which Tanja sent out on 14/01/2008, subject line: "Update to the TN on Phobos observations optimisation" Case 4 corresponds to the strategy described in section 3. Case 2 corresponds to the strategy described in section 4.1 Case 5 corresponds to the strategy described in section 4.2. Summary comments have been included in all files. Here follows the comments for case 4: This file describes the departure of the frozen orbit (ref. 416). It covers the period between 11/05/08 and 11/01/09 with maneuvers in order to enhance observing conditions for Phobos with minimal distance to MEX on 23/07/08. The maneuvers will be performed on 22/06/08 and 17/08/2008 which deviate us from the 18/5 resonance slightly during this period. Detailed descriptions of the three different options are presented in MEX-ESC-TN-5520.pdf which was sent out by email by T. Zegers on 14/01/2008, subject line: "Update to the TN on Phobos observations optimisation": Case PHOBOS_4_00001 corresponds to strategy described in section 3. Case PHOBOS_2_00001 corresponds to strategy described in section 4.1 Case PHOBOS_5_00001 corresponds to strategy described in section 4.2. PHOBOS_2 is a variation to PHOBOS_4 to reduce period of coverage gaps PHOBOS_5 is a variation to PHOBOS_4 but biased to night conditions. A summary for this case (4) follows here: - Maneuvres will be performed on 22/06/08 & 17/08/2008. - The maneuvres will be performed at pericenters. - We will depart the MEX/Mars 18/5 resonance between the maneuvres. - The observation conditions vary for the different close encounters. In the early encounters the S/C sees rather the dark face of Phobos (phase angle > 90 deg). The later encounters see the illuminated Phobos (phase angle <90). - Closest approach is on 23/07/08 with a distance of 147 km. - 23/07/08 closest approach has a phase angle of 45 degrees (day). - Gaps in HRSC coverage will occur from begin July till mid August. - From orbit 5772 which is on 30/06/08 pericenters are in the dark. - Total delta-V associated to both manoeuvres is of about 45 cm/s. - Closest approaches: Date Minimum Distance[km] Distance between orbits [km] Jun 26th 1391.28 1376.04 Jul 1st 1114.4 1108.45 Jul 6th 832.93 832.375 July 12th 550.725 549.562 July 17th 269.615 253.497 July 23rd 147.107 42.3401 July 28th 390.907 350.211 August 3rd 686.701 657.282 August 8th 992.515 974.808 August 13th 1305.72 1296.96 -- kind regards, Jim Volp --- Mars Express Payload Support Team European Space Astronomy Centre Email: Jim.Volp@SciOps.esa.int Tel. +34 918 131 110 From wilson.chen@dsn.nasa.gov Mon Aug 11 16:13:22 2008 Return-Path: Received: from DSNOAM-MM.jpl.nasa.gov (dsnoam-mm.jpl.nasa.gov [128.149.207.83]) by magellan.stanford.edu (8.11.7p3+Sun/8.11.7) with ESMTP id m7BNDLv03686 for ; Mon, 11 Aug 2008 16:13:22 -0700 (PDT) Received: from dsnoamex1.jpl.nasa.gov (Not Verified[128.149.207.88]) by DSNOAM-MM.jpl.nasa.gov with MailMarshal (v6,4,5,5695) id ; Mon, 11 Aug 2008 16:13:20 -0700 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft Exchange V6.5 Content-class: urn:content-classes:message MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="----_=_NextPart_001_01C8FC07.D7DFD426" Subject: RE: 41 RMDC RS Delivery Date: Mon, 11 Aug 2008 16:13:20 -0700 Message-ID: X-MS-Has-Attach: X-MS-TNEF-Correlator: Thread-Topic: 41 RMDC RS Delivery Thread-Index: Acj36HWcbNvkm0BRRbO+lkCoH+aAjwEH0Ckg From: "Chen, Wilson C" To: "Dick Simpson 650-723-3525" Cc: , "DSN-RMDCT" Content-Length: 5430 Status: RO This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------_=_NextPart_001_01C8FC07.D7DFD426 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable RMDCT delivery to MEX-RS 1-sec Doppler compression time Four Occultation Files have been processed and delivered to: OSCARX://ftp/ras/sc41/odfs/08221O221_15X_1s.SC041 OSCARX://ftp/ras/sc41/odfs/08221O221_15S_1s.SC041 OSCARX://ftp/ras/sc41/odfs/08222O223_15X_1s.SC041 OSCARX://ftp/ras/sc41/odfs/08222O223_15S_1s.SC041 Regards, Wilson Chen RMDC Analyst Phone: 626-305-6269 Email: wcchen@jftl.jpl.nasa.gov
