Instructions for scheduling of calibration observations in HIFI cycle 87 A. HIFI Scheduling Guideline Changes Please note that with this delivery of a new CAL MC, we have implemented changes to increase observing efficiency by deprecating the dissI state. The guidelines for HIFI scheduling have changed in the following ways: a. There is no requirement to have a diss-I to diss-II transition 24h prior to the first HIFI OD of a block. Simply omit the diss-II transition on the prior OD, and start the HIFI OD as usual. b. When HIFI observes on the following OD the rule is unchanged, i.e. a transition to diss-II on the ASTR CUS into the band that is to be observed first on the following OD, or the band that was last scheduled on the current OD. c. At the end of a HIFI prime period, a transition from normal to diss-II in band 5b using the CAL MC should be scheduled. The transition to diss-I should no longer be used. B. HIFI Subsystem Tests The following 3 subsystem tests (chopper + HRS) can be executed during a DTCP, and they do not need to point at any target. No prior LO SWON is required. They should be scheduled against the current CAL MC H111. HifiEng_Chopper_openloop_scan_cycle_87 HifiEng_Chopper_Response_time_COP_cycle_87 HifiEng_HRS_FT_COP_cycle_87 D. Band 3b purity campaign, 1 of 2 The following 4 AORs aim at validating the updated multiplier settings, found through cycle-85 observations, to purify a part of band 3b. They should be scheduled on a single OD, where the band-3b observing block is sandwiched between the engineering observations specified under D. These four AORs can be scheduled in any given order, possibly interspersed with other science or calibration observations. They require a prior LO SWON, short is sufficient for these DBS observations. Please schedule against the current CAL MC H111. Band3b_SScanPure_EndOfMission_IRAS16293 Band3b_SScanPure_EndOfMission_SgrB2(M) Band3b_SScanPure_EndOfMission_OrionKL Band3b_SScanPure_EndOfMission_SgrB2(N) E. Band 3b purity campaign, 2 of 2 The following 3 AORs should bracket the block of band-3b observations containing the AORs mentioned under C. The first AOR (LO_FT) should be scheduled first, immediately before the LO SWON. The last two AORs (DipsurveyPure and 2nd LO_FT) should end the block of 3b observations. Please schedule these 3 AORs against the current CAL MC H111. HifiEng_LO_FT_IVC_COP_3b_STEP2_BEFORE HifiEng_DipsurveyPure_EndOfMission_3b HifiEng_LO_FT_IVC_COP_3b_STEP2_AFTER F. Diplexer Cross-Talk Measurements These engineering tests address the cross-talk between polarizations H and V in diplexer bands (3, 4, 6, and 7). These tests do not point at any target and can be scheduled during DTCP. They require a prior LO switch-on: SHORT in bands 3 & 4, LONG in bands 6 & 7. The detune tests in bands 3a and 7a (2nd and 3rd block, respectively) should be scheduled in the order indicated below. They can be followed or preceded by other observations in those bands (including the crosstalk tests given in the 1st block). These 30 AORs should be scheduled against the current CAL MC H111. Linearity test observations The following 4 AORs test the linearity of HIFI's detectors. They target Jupiter and need a prior LO SWON (short in 1b, long in 7a). For each band, please schedule in the order given below (i.e., *hor* first, *ver* second). Please schedule against the current ASTR MC H102. Linearity_Jupiter_1b_hor_cycle_86_fixedseq Linearity_Jupiter_1b_ver_cycle_86_fixedseq Linearity_Jupiter_7a_hor_cycle_86_fixedseq Linearity_Jupiter_7a_ver_cycle_86_fixedseq H. Direct-Detection Tests on Jupiter These three observations are to characterize direct-detection effects and their influence on IF standing waves. Seen previously on a weaker source at this LO setting, on Jupiter they should be much more pronounced. These 3 AORs should be scheduled against the current ASTR MC H102. Zigzag Test Observations The following 3 AORs address an apparent "zigzag" pointing/timing offset (HCSS-14194). They should be scheduled against the current ASTR MC H102. Standard Source Monitoring Observations These astronomical targets are part of our monitoring program on reference sources. These 10 AORs should be scheduled against the current ASTR MC H102.
