Dear Potential SPIRE ICC reviewer, As you are no doubt aware the FIRST ground segment marks a departure from the traditional ESA model. The instruments must make a very significant contribution to the overall ground segment in the form of an Instrument Control Centre (ICC). The design of the SPIRE ICC has been progressing alongside the development of a co-ordinated ground segment plan involving the FSC, MOC and other ICCs. This has been an interesting experience as all parties have had to ensure that they have the same understanding of their roles in this unfamiliar landscape! The design of the ground segment and the role of the SPIRE ICC within this has reached a sufficient level of maturity that we feel it is appropriate for it to be reviewed internally (primarily by SPIRE users). This review will be of the high level requirements and overall design concept. The SPIRE Instrument Control Centre is just about to launch into an intensive period of detailed design and feedback at this stage is especially important. During the review the SPIRE ICC Definition Team will explain; the role of the ICC within the ground segment as a whole; the requirements that we are expecting to meet; and the method we are adopting to ensure that we meet those requirements. As a reviewer we will hope that you can use your expertise and experience as an astronomer and/or instrumentalist to detect any functions or requirements that we may have overlooked or any weaknesses potential or apparent in our current high level design. The results of this review will be used immediately to facilitate the SPIRE ICC development and also be supplied as feedback to the design of the ground segment as a whole. As a reviewer we would hope that you can digest several documents and attend a review meeting spread over the afternoon and morning of two days, reporting back at the end of the session. The suggestion is that this review would take place during the week starting 19th Februaray 2001. Attached to this message is a draft agenda for that meeting. I hope you will be able to assist us in this exercise. Please could you let me know as soon as possible whether you will be able to, and which dates in the week of 19th Feb. suit you best.
